Working Groups - Introduction
Overview

The General Synod or its Standing Committee establishes Working Groups to deal with specific matters that require the attention of a small group of representative specialists. These matters need to be of national significance as each of the twenty-three dioceses of the Anglican Church of Australia are responsible for dealing with their own regional or local life and mission.

Some groups can deal with matters on an ongoing basis, whilst others operate only for a fixed period of time or are concerned with a clearly defined project of importance to the life of the Church nationally. Australian Anglicans are encouraged to take an active interest in the activities of these Working Groups and make a contribution to the life of our Church by as such Groups will often invite submissions or comment from members of the Church or the public at large.

Current groups include:
    • Child Protection Committee
    • Diocesan Financial Advisory Group
    • Environment
    • National Protocols
    • Refugees
    • Women in the Episcopate
Several other groups have completed a particular task and have now been disbanded. Such groups include:
    • Sexual Abuse Protocols
    • Ecumenical Strategies
    • Ordained Ministry
    • Standing Committee Review
When a Working Group has have fulfilled its responsibilities to Standing Committee or the General Synod it is wound up. This does not mean that the specific issue itself is no longer a matter of considerable importance and concern to the Church as a whole. Rather Anglicans are encouraged to be consider the reports of Working Groups as they will have a significant ongoing impact to the life, order and governance of the Church, locally and nationally.
