Australian Volunteers International (AVI) has exciting overseas assignments available for Australians with skills in community development and social work. The Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) Vanuatu has been running the Vanuatu Church Partnerships Project (VCPP) for several years.
ACOM, has been involved in the provision of social services such as education and training, nursing, training of artisans and seafarers. Today this function has been extended to general capacity building through community based activities that includes; Running schools (kindergartens, primary, secondary, and tertiary skills training),
Social projects working for peace and justice, caring for abused women and children and developing literary program to name a few.
Additionally, ACOM needs skilled professionals to support local staff in their organisational endeavours. Subsequently, a committed Project Technical Adviser is now being sought to advise and support the project as it grows and develops.
To be considered for this position, you will require:
• Bachelor of Social Science (Social/Community Development or Development Economics)
• Experience working in the community development sector
• Experience in project management
• Extensive experience in staff mentoring
Personal attributes must include the ability to cope with cultural isolation, a willingness to learn the local language and a good understanding and appreciation of the Pacific lifestyle.
AVI works in several countries in Asia, the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. AVI volunteers work in partnership with local people and organisations. Their skills and knowledge contribute to reducing poverty, building cross-cultural relationships and supporting sustainable development.
