Background
DFAG was formed in April 2000 by the Standing Committee of General Synod. Its role is to advise the General Synod on financial developments within the Diocese of the Church and to assist with identifying and addressing any financial difficulties which may arise from time to time.

According to its terms of reference, DFAG may assist Dioceses by:
  • establishing an appropriate framework for the regular review of the publicly available accounts;
  • assessing their existing financial reporting and recommend improvements;
  • providing advice on managing their finances and assets, including appropriate organisational and decision-making structures, when necessary;
  • identifying and determining the extent of potential financial difficulties, and recommending how these can be contained and redressed;
  • recommending persons who could assist with financial reporting and asset managment when DFAG is unable to assist.
Activities and Resources
DFAG is engaged in a range of activities including the development of:
  • discussion papers that raise awareness of financial management issues of interest and importance to Diocesan managers;
  • a suitable 'benchmark' against which Diocesan accounts and other financial information can be compared; and
  • key performance indicators that could serve as an 'early warning' system that would alert Dioceses of potential financial difficulties.

DFAG played a key role in the Diocesan Accountant's Conference, 20-23 July 2004 and the Finance Manager's Conference, 18-21 July 2005.
