Background

In July 2005, the Standing Committee resolved that it:
a. Receives this report of the Anglican Consultative Council delegation to the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW).
b. Affirms the resolution 'The ACC Provincial Delegation to the 49th UN Commission on the Status of Women', and
c. Invites Ann Skamp to report to the next meeting of the Standing Committee on the implications of any implementation of the ACC resolution.

In November 2005 the Standing Committee agreed to appoint a working party consisting of the Reverend Kay Goldsworthy, Mrs Ann Skamp and the Venerable Dr Cathy Thomson to develop terms of reference for and examine the financial feasibility of a Women's Commission to be presented to Standing Committee at its first meeting of 2006.



Terms of Reference


In March 2006, the Standing Committee of General Synod agreed to the following Terms of Reference for the Women's Commission, namely

    1. to provide a process by which the National Church may engage with the issues and concerns of Australian women both within and beyond the Church;
    2. to identify priorities regarding the Church's mission to women; and
    3. to act as a "women's desk" for the Anglican Church of Australia as requested by ACC-13.

The Standing Committee also allocated a budget of $3,000 to enable to work of the Commission to begin in 2006.
