At the 2001 General Synod, the Ministry Commission was established with the following functions:

The Christian Research Association, in association with NCLS Research, prepared a report to the General Synod addressing the needs of Churches in rural Australia. The report, compiled by Phillip Hughes, Audra Kunciunas, Ruth Powell and Michael Pippett, is titled "Models of Leadership and Organisation in Anglican Churches in Rural Australia".

MINISTRY IN AREAS AFFECTED BY CLIMATE CHANGE
A Task Force appointed by the Standing Committee in February 2008 has reported to the Standing Committee with recommendations on ministry in areas affected by climate change. The Standing Committee has requested Bishops Doug Stephens, Garry Weatherill, Andrew Curnow and Jeffrey Driver to prepare a report on models of Dioceses and Episcopacy that could assist the Anglican Church of Australia in its mission and ministry for the future.

PIONEER MINISTRY
The Fresh Expressions Australia Task Force prepared a report on Pioneer Ministry for the National Bishops meeting in March 2009 which was received by the Standing Committee in June 2009.

- To examine questions of mission in this church on all matters dealing with the competency of ordained and authorised lay ministry, referred to it by the Primate, the Standing Committee or the General Synod, and to report thereon to the referring party and the Standing Committee; and
- to make recommendations to the Standing Committee on matters of mission and ministry which are of importance to this church.
